Velez-Malaga is the capital town of the Malaga district of Axarquia and covers an area of 156m2 kilometres. Its history can be traced back to prehistoric times.
The Moslems occupied it until 1487 and its Moslem influences can still be seen in the old quarter of the town with its winding streets and narrow passageways.
