Torre del Mar is the beach resort of Velez-Malaga with a population of 15,000. This number can increase between July and September to 150,000! It has 4km of beach and a lovely promenade which stretches all the way to Caleta de Vélez. During the summer months there are many Chiringuitos ( bars ) on the beach, serving fresh fish and cold beers. There are plenty of pavement cafes and bars offering all kinds of local fare.
Torre del Mar is one of many towns along the coast which takes its name from the many atalayas, or watch towers, used to guard the coast in Roman and Moorish times. A lively town that has undergone considerable improvement over the last few years, Torre del Mar is a quiet resort.
