East of Málaga and approximately 50km from the airport is where you will find Nerja. It was originally a sleepy little fishing village but now is bustling small town and has a population of over 19,000 registered residents. It presently has over 4,000 foreigners, British being the highest followed by Germans then Argentineans and the remainder comprising mainly Swedish, Norwegian and Belgians.

Although Nerja is a popular tourist resort, and despite its predominantly foreign population, it has escaped the major development of other coastal towns west of Malaga. As a result, Nerja is a pretty town, retaining all it´s Spanish character and has a fantastic backdrop of the Almijara mountain range. The town offers many fine bars and Restaurants and shops.

Nerja´s old town is relatively unchanged and is typical of any Andalucian town with narrow winding streets, whitewashed houses and decorated balconies. There is a fine selection of bars and cafés, restaurants and shops.

Close by is the 17 th century Church of El Salvador and the town has a number of beaches, including Burriana which is Nerjas busiest and biggest with numerous cafes and bars.
